L‑plan, three‑storey stone tower house set on level ground with a short projecting wing at one corner capped by gables at its north and south ends. Exterior walls are built of roughly coursed grey stone with small, narrow window openings and a few larger rectangular windows. Much of the surrounding courtyard ranges and enclosing wall are low or fragmentary; the main blocks rise as tall, roofless volumes with a clear separation between the stair wing and the principal block.

Torwood Castle is a 16th-century L-plan tower house near the village of Torwood in the Falkirk area. The estate was held from the second half of the 15th century by the Foresters of Garden, keepers of the nearby Royal Forest of Tor Wood; it passed to Clan Baillie in the early 16th century and then to George, 1st Lord Forrester, in 1635.
The castle saw action in 1585, captured as a preliminary to the taking of Stirling Castle during the successful rebellion of the Earls of Mar and Angus. Excavation of two rooms of the north range in 1999 uncovered a kitchen and a well room off the cobbled courtyard, once enclosed by three ranges of buildings of which little remains.
The roofless tower still stands three storeys tall, with a vaulted ground floor and a gabled stair wing. Designated a Category A listed building in 1979 and protected under a trust, it has nonetheless struggled: the Buildings at Risk Register for Scotland raised its risk level to moderate in mid-2019 after signs of continued neglect.
