Dale Castle
Castell Dale
Dale Castle is a medieval castle near the village of Dale in Pembrokeshire, Wales, originally built in the 13th century and later remodeled and partly incorporated into a 1910 private dwelling. Little of the original medieval fabric survives visibly as an intact fortress; surviving stone walls and a reduced tower have been absorbed into a castellated house and farm buildings. The site remains private and is not open to the public.

A compact medieval stronghold dominated by a rectangular battlemented tower attached to a westward range of buildings with a hipped roofline; a south wing forms the central block (about 19.5 × 17 m) with very thick stone walls (c.2.4 m). The front wall creates a small forecourt, and a separate square garden/tower stands a short distance away. The stone is grey local masonry, crenellated along the roofline, set in rolling farmland above a coastal inlet and cliffs.

Dale Castle, close to the village of Dale in Pembrokeshire, was built in the 13th century, after the Norman invasion of South Wales, by the de Vales, descendants of a knight who had accompanied Robert fitz Martin on his invasion of north Pembrokeshire.
The Walter family of Roch Castle later took ownership; from them descended Lucy Walter, mistress of King Charles II and mother of the Duke of Monmouth. The castle then passed through the Paynter, Allen and Lloyd families.
In 1910 part of the castle was removed and other parts were incorporated into a new private dwelling built in the style of a fortified manor house. It is owned now by the Lloyd Philipps family and their trusts, who have sold much of the remaining non-core estate, including the island of Skokholm. The house remains private.
