A monumental Renaissance-Revival sandstone palace facing Maria-Theresien-Platz: three main storeys with rusticated ground level, rows of large arched windows, ornate pilasters and sculpted reliefs, a projecting central entrance block with arched portals and columns, a balustraded roofline with statuary, and a dominant octagonal dome (about 60 m) with smaller domed pavilions. Interiors are marble, stucco ornamented with gold-leaf and large mural cycles; the main stair and galleries are richly detailed.
