Mozarts Geburtshaus

Mozart's birthplace (Hagenauerhaus) is a house museum at No. 9 Getreidegasse in Salzburg where the Mozart family lived from 1747 to 1773 and where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on 27 January 1756. Since 1880 the building has housed a museum displaying his early instruments, portraits, documents and period rooms. The structure is owned by the Mozart Foundation.

What Mozart's birthplace looked like in its prime.

A tall, narrow four‑storey ochre plaster townhouse with regularly spaced white‑trimmed windows and small top-level openings. Street level has three deep arched bays and a carved stone arched gateway with an ornate cartouche above; lower windows protected by decorative wrought‑iron grilles. A round gilt cartouche/crest sits between the second and third floors. Many upper casement windows open inward; overall scale is that of a narrow urban merchant house on a tight street.
