His Majesty's Theatre

His Majesty's Theatre is a West End theatre on the Haymarket in the City of Westminster, London, in the building designed by Charles J. Phipps and completed in 1897. The house seats about 1,216 and has long been used for large-scale theatrical and musical productions; its name changes to reflect the gender of the reigning monarch.

A broad pale-stone late-Victorian theatre block with a tall central portico of four classical columns, a balustraded first-floor terrace and a broad iron-and-glass entrance canopy over recessed doorways and poster display bays. Mansard rooflines and dormer windows step up to a large dark domed cupola with a small lantern; the façade is articulated with sash windows, stone mouldings, pediments and a gold-lettered theatre name above the portico.
