O2 Academy Brixton

Brixton Academy (now O2 Academy Brixton) is an Art Deco former cinema and theatre on Stockwell Road in Brixton, south London, converted into a major live-music venue. The listed building is known for its large domed entrance, colonnaded portico and steep, multi-tiered auditorium used for concerts since the 1980s.

A pale-cream, tiled Art Deco block with a broad central dome over a circular, columned portico; the dome has vertical ribs and a dark patinated metal covering. Flanking wings step back with tall, vertical-window bays and red-framed sash glazing; green glazed tile accents break the stone façade. A rectangular name-panel sits high on the parapet. Street-level shopfronts run along the left wing; the main entrance is recessed beneath the dome behind stone columns and shallow steps.
