What Waldstadion looked like in its prime.

A large oval bowl of pale cast concrete piers and open tiers wrapped by a low outer colonnade, topped by a white, scalloped, retractable membrane roof that forms a repeating cushion pattern around an open rectangular centre exposing the green pitch. Steel masts and roof cables rise from the bowl rim above dark spectator seating; four tall rectangular concrete towers stand outside the ring. The stadium sits in a wooded park with access roads, flagpoles and a rail station nearby.
