Piazza Navona

Piazza Navona is a large, elongated oval public square in Rome laid out on the footprint of the ancient Stadium of Domitian. The piazza is dominated by three monumental fountains and framed by 17th‑century Baroque palaces and the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone, forming one of Rome's principal Baroque ensembles.

An elongated oval paved in small cobbles (sampietrini) enclosed by continuous rows of three- to five-storey palazzi with plastered ochre and pale stone façades. Three marble fountains occupy the oval axis: the central travertine basin and sculpted marble group with a tall ancient obelisk, and smaller basin groups at the north and south ends. The Baroque concave façade and dome of Sant'Agnese in Agone rise above the eastern side, while the Palazzo Pamphilj presents a long piano nobile with tall windows facing the square.
