The Quirinal Palace is a large state palace on the Quirinal Hill in Rome that has served as a papal residence, a royal palace and since 1946 the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic. The complex comprises a long, symmetrical travertine façade facing Piazza del Quirinale, extensive representative apartments, chapels and four hectares of formal and romantic gardens.

A long, pale travertine palace with a strong horizontal cornice and two principal storeys: a rusticated ground floor and a piano nobile with regularly spaced rectangular windows topped by simple pediments and plain surrounds. The central portal is emphasized by a balcony flying state flags; the façade terminates with robust quoins. To the fore, the broad cobbled Piazza del Quirinale contains an ancient obelisk on a high pedestal and monumental marble statues of the Dioscuri beside a fountain; gardens rise behind the palace.
