Tretyakov Gallery

The State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow is the leading public collection of Russian fine art, founded from Pavel Tretyakov's private collection and presented to the city in 1892. The iconic Lavrushinsky Lane building received its unified Russian 'terem' façade to Vasnetsov's designs in 1902–04 and contains multiple exhibition halls and specialised galleries within a compact courtyard complex south of the Kremlin.

Broad two‑ and three‑storey red‑brick complex faced in pale stone trim and polychrome tile, its principal elevation unified by Viktor Vasnetsov’s 1902–04 fairy‑tale façade: stepped gables with gilded edges, a carved central pediment, horizontal inscription/mosaic bands, and grouped wooden doors beneath white arched surrounds. Glass roof lanterns and pitched roofs rise behind the frontage. Scale is modest for a national gallery, set around a paved courtyard with planters and a bronze statue; condition at prime is complete and newly finished.
