A late‑19th‑century Scottish Baronial villa of warm ashlar sandstone with an irregular, asymmetrical silhouette: multiple round corner turrets topped by steep conical slate roofs, a taller cylindrical tower with a small green‑patinated cupola at one end, stepped gables and high mullioned windows. Tall chimneys and varied rooflines punctuate the massing. The house occupies a gentle moorland slope with formal lawns and woodland above the Ballikinrain Burn; in its prime the stonework and roofs were complete and intact.

Ballikinrain is a large Scottish Baronial country house built in 1868 for Sir Archibald Orr-Ewing, its listed ashlar bulk set beside the Ballikinrain Burn in the parish of Killearn, between Balfron and Fintry in central Scotland. The burn rises on Earl's Seat and runs some four kilometres across Ballikinrain Muir and through the estate, making a series of cascades on its descent to the Endrick Water.
The house later turned to education: a girls' boarding school from Liberton near Edinburgh took up temporary residence at the castle, and it has since housed an independent residential school run by CrossReach, the social care outreach arm of the Church of Scotland. In January 2024 planning permission was granted to return the building to a private residence, with the stables to be converted to housing.
