Crosbie Castle and the Fullarton estate
Crosbie Castle near Troon in South Ayrshire was the medieval seat of the Fullarton family and part of the feudal barony of Corsbie Fullartoune. The castle was rebuilt several times, later partly demolished and converted into an ice house when Fullarton House was built; its remains today mainly represent the dungeon and low outer walls. The Fullarton estate later became a public park.

A compact square-plan stone tower-house built of local grey sandstone, with pronounced ashlar corner quoins and thick coursed rubble walls. Narrow vertical slit windows interrupt the wall faces; at its prime the masonry rose to a continuous roofline and contained a low, cool lower chamber. The building stood within the Fullarton estate parkland near Troon, accompanied nearby by a freestanding doocot and service outbuildings; the lowest level housed a stone-lined dungeon with an underground stream.

Crosbie Castle, near Troon in South Ayrshire, was the home of the Fullarton family for several centuries, its lands part of the feudal Barony of Corsbie Fullartoune. The old Crosbie estate was granted to the Fullartons in 1344 — a grant recorded under Robert II, though he only came to the throne in 1371, which makes the date questionable. In the days of the laird's right of pit and gallows, criminals were held at the castle before sentence was passed on them by the barony court.
By the eighteenth century the old castle had been partly demolished and converted into an ice house, with a doocot nearby, for the new Fullarton House — built by William Fullarton of that Ilk in 1745 and altered by his son. The mansion was purchased by the council in 1928, proved impossible to maintain, and was demolished in 1966; the estate is now a public park and golf course, and the castle remains today mainly represent the dungeon and low outer walls.
