Thomaston Castle
Thomaston Castle is a medieval stone castle located west of Maybole in South Ayrshire, Scotland. Originally built in the 13th century, it later belonged to members of the McIlvaine family. The structure today is run down and partly collapsed, though its medieval fabric remains visible.

A compact medieval stone castle of solid masonry set in the open Ayrshire countryside west of Maybole. In its prime (1525) the castle appears with continuous stone walls and intact roofs and chimneys, the masonry showing weathered greys and browns of local stone; small domestic windows punctuate the elevations and the building sits directly on the ground without later enclosing parkland. A modest later domestic house occupies a nearby plot on the property in subsequent centuries.

Thomaston Castle stands west of Maybole in South Ayrshire, originally built in the 13th century for a nephew of Robert the Bruce. Its first recorded owner was Alan McIlvaine, born in Ayrshire in 1500, whose family supplied wine to the Earls Kennedy, owners of nearby Culzean Castle.
On Alan's death Thomaston passed to Patrick McIlvaine on his marriage to Isobel Kennedy, a daughter of Gilbert Kennedy, 3rd Earl of Cassilis. The castle looks much as it did hundreds of years ago, little has changed beyond a house added on the property, but it is run down, with debris falling in on the medieval fabric.
