Votivkirche

The Votivkirche is a neo‑Gothic Roman Catholic church on Vienna's Ringstraße, built 1856–1879 to designs by Heinrich von Ferstel. The basilica has a three‑aisled nave, transept, choir with ambulatory and apsidioles, and a west façade dominated by two slim 99 m towers with openwork spires.

What Votive Church looked like in its prime.

A pale, finely carved white‑sandstone west façade with two slim, octagonal towers rising to filigree openwork spires topped by double crosses; three deeply recessed gabled portals with multi‑order archivolts, a statuary gallery above the portals and a large circular rose window crowned by the nave gable. Pointed‑arch lancet windows, blind tracery, buttresses and flying buttresses define vertical lines; patterned roof tiling on the nave and crisp shadowed mouldings give a recently completed, pristine appearance.
