Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin

Christ Church Cathedral (The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity) is the Church of Ireland cathedral for the United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough, located in the medieval heart of Dublin. Founded in the early 11th century and rebuilt in stone from the late 12th century, the building seen today largely reflects extensive Victorian rebuilding completed in the 1870s alongside surviving medieval fabric.

What Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin looked like in its prime.

Broad cruciform cathedral rising from a compact city site, stone-built with a squat central tower and steep pitched roofs; decorative flying buttresses added to the aisles and a covered timber-and-stone footbridge joining the cathedral to the adjacent Synod Hall. Walls show darker local Calp limestone with paler oolitic Dundry dressings around doors and openings. Exterior profile is dominated by the tower and buttresses; the interior presents aisled arcades, pointed Gothic arches and a low, vaulted Romanesque crypt beneath the east end.
