What Forth Bridge looked like in its prime.

A vast red‑painted lattice of riveted steel cantilevers and truss girders, rising from massive tapered granite piers set in the Firth of Forth; three huge four-tower cantilever groups dominate the silhouette, linked by central truss spans and long approach viaducts. The double railway track runs along the top of the truss about 150 feet above the water; scale is monumental — long continuous red steelwork, angular triangular bracing, and the pale grey of granite piers against the sea.
